HEALTH - SUPPORT

SOAR Health support is here to provide a holistic range of services that an individual can access to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
SOAR's Health workers are local people who understand the community needs and deliver a profesional and long term service; they are all experienced and qualified in their field of expertise.
Stop Smoking
SOAR's Stop Smoking Worker provides a flexible, individually tailored support package. They help people trying to quit with issues such as managing stress, healthy eating and nicotine replacement.
Advice is FREE and friendly and prescriptions can be arranged for patches and other Nicotine Replacement Therapies, such as Zyban.
Where & When?
Support can be given in person, over the telephone, by text or email and will continue throughout your quit for up to 12 weeks.
Weekly Stop Smoking support sessions are held at the following locations:
- SOAR One Stop Shop, 19 Bellhouse Road, Firth Park
- Learning Zone, Parson Cross
- Palgrave GP Surgery, Southey*
- Longley 4G, Longley
- Shiregreen TARA, Shiregreen

Mental Wellbeing
SOAR has developed innovative pathways to improving a person’s mental wellbeing that ensures the right amount of support is given for as long as they need it.
IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Services)
A ‘Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner’ will be available to see clients who are experiencing mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
Using a ‘guided self-help’ approach based on cognitive behavioural therapy they can offer:
- Information about stress
- Understanding your thoughts
- Understanding panic attacks
- Understanding sleep problems
Counselling
SOARs Counsellors provide Medium – Long term counselling for people who may have had a recent bereavement, recovering from critical incident or illness, etc.
This is as an enhanced service to support work of existing IAPT Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner; in effect a next steps route for clients requiring longer term Counselling provision.
Where & When?
This is an ongoing provision and tailored to an individual’s needs and circumstances.
IAPT
- Face to face or telephone sessions
- Hour assessment session
- Hour follow up sessions
- Brief interventions – typically 4-8 sessions
Counselling
- Fortnightly sessions
- 1 hour sessions
- Up to 6 months support given
Health Trainer
SOARs team of Health Trainers, have been fully trained to help give people the support and knowledge for making “lifestyle changes” to become healthier.
For example people may wish to make changes to help lose weight or be more active.
Health Trainers can offer 1-1 sessions and information on:
- Healthier eating
- Weight Management
- Physical activity, etc.
