SOAR Health Services Team

The aim of the Health Services Team is to improve the general Health & Wellbeing
of local residents by increasing awareness/uptake of services within Southey Owlerton,
Firth Park and Shiregreen areas.

We achieve this by a number of projects and workers that form part of
the Enhanced Public Health Progamme and other funded health initiatives;

  • Stop Smoking
  • Advocacy
  • Older Persons Activity
  • Debt Support & Advice
  • Health Trainer
  • Health Development
  • IAPT Mental Wellbeing
  • Small Grants
  • Health Theme Groups

  

Southey Green & Flowers Enhanced Public Health Programme (EPHP)

The aim of Enhanced Public Health Programmes, like the one in Southey
Green and Flowers, is to reduce the gap in life expectancy over the next
3 years through a combination of activities aimed at helping people to
stay healthy, improving ways of identifying people who are at risk of
health problems, and increasing access to a range of services.

Both EPHP areas include pieces of funded work designed to tackle a
range of public health priorities.  Areas of work that the plan focuses
on include:

  • Stop Smoking
  • Healthy start in life
  • Chronic Disease
  • Physical Activity

 

Included within these priorities are objectives set around:

  • Chronic disease prevention and management (CHD, cancer, COPD & diabetes)
  • Substance/alcohol misuse
  • Mental Health
  • Sexual Health
  • Obesity
  • General Health & Wellbeing
